The History of SchmitterGroup

SchmitterGroup is an international automotive supplier with its headquarters in Thuengen, Bavaria.

1947 The company was founded in 1947 by Josef Schmitter in Bielefeld.
1956 In 1956 the production of fuel and diesel injection pipes began.
1965 The Thuengen production facilities for manufacturing injection, fuel and hydraulic hose pipes were founded in 1965.
1975 In 1975 the product range was extended to the field of piston cooling jets, one year later to the production of steering booster pipes.
1990 in 1990 a site in Ireland was opened.
2000 In 2000 the Mannesmann subsidiary TubeTec GmbH was taken over and renamed to SchmitterChassis GmbH in order to strengthen the own division Chassis.
2001 Schmitter GmbH was changed to SchmitterGroup AG in 2001
2002 In 2002 the company Jacot S.A. (now SchmitterFrance S.A.S.) was taken over.
2003 In 2003 the site SchmitterAutomotiveAsia SDN.BHD. was founded in Penang, Malaysia.
2005 In 2005 the sites SchmitterKeumahZhongding (Anhui) Automotive Components C.-Ltd. in China and SchmitterChassis LLC in Cass City, USA, were founded.
2006 One year later SchmitterAustria One year later SchmitterAustria GmbH in Gräberbach, Austria, was founded and Schmitter (Ireland) Ltd. closed down.
2007 The Arnstein site and hence the division fluid systems was outsourced to SchmitterHydraulik GmbH and realized. This was a further step towards the concentration on the core divisions Chassis and Powertrain (engine, drive technology).
2008 In December 2008 the Chinese Zhongding Co.Ltd. took over 75.1 % of the shares of SchmitterGroup.
2009 2 joint ventures in China - Wuxi Weifu Schmitter Powertrain Components Co., Ltd and SCHMITTER AUTO STEEL TUBE (ANHUI) CO.,LTD.
2013 Close-down of SchmitterAustria GmbH and take over of SteloTec GmbH in Mannheim.
2015 Acquisition of Vincenz wiederholt GmbH.
2017 SchmitterGroup AG was changed to SchmitterGroup GmbH in 2017.
Close-down of SchmitterChassis GmbH
